As the development of electronic technology and computer technology, modern computer has not been limited within the problem of numerical processing, and it has in the times of focus on knowledge, especially in intelligent control system. During complex industrial production, most systems still use PID control method. As a classic method, PID controller has the advantages such as simple structure, good adaptability, the precise model which does not depend on the controlled object, and has stronger robustness, etc. As the development of intelligent technology, the control method which uses PID to combine with intelligent technology is a hot research in recent years.The center of PID control is the problem of parameter tuning. During actual application, PID controller parameter is mostly dependent on control engineer whom accumulated local adjustable experience to achieve tuning, so it's often difficult to reach the satisfactory degree. Specifically for varying system or nonlinear system, PID controller parameter often can't promptly be adjusted as the production process or load changes make the change of system model.There are three main components in this paper. First of all, knowledge and its related concepts are explained, which lays the foundation for the tuning method and application of PID controller. Second, according to a class industrial process that approximate described by the first order system with pure time delay, the mathematical model of controlled object is identified using Levenberg-Marquardt least square fitting method, and then, the parameters of PID controller are calculated based on the parameter self-tuning method of typical PID controller, and two typical industrial objects are simulated. At last, on the basis of the combination of particle swarm optimization and artificial immune system, a new self-tuning method of immune optimization algorithm for intelligent is studied and simulated, take it as basis, a fuzzy adaptive PID controller of boiler feed water system is designed, as compared with conventional PID controller, the performance is better and the control result is more superior.
