Wireless sensor network is one of the emerging strategic industries in China.IPv6is the objective trend of the development of the next IP protocol generation. It hasabundant resources in address. And IPv6supports the automatic configuration of theaddress. Even, it has the advantages that it is high safety and mobility. The meaning isbroad if each wireless sensor network nodes use the IPv6protocol that the end-to-endcommunication between the users and the nodes can be achieved. Therefore, the IPv6protocol stack using in the wireless sensor network nodes is needed to come out.In this paper, the IPv6protocol stack for wireless sensor network is designed. And itcan be used in the wireless sensor network ordinary node under the single nets andsingle sink network. Even more, this protocol stack also can be used under the TinyOSoperating system.The main works in this paper is as follow.First of all, the IPv6technology and the6LoWPAN draft standard are refered. TheIPv6protocol stack is designed which accords to application background of the stack,including the cutting of the basic IPv6protocol and the ICMPv6protocol, the design ofthe stateless auto configuration of the addresses, the simplification of the neighbordiscovery protocol, the design of the routing protocol. And, the6LoWPAN technologyis improved. It implements the IPv6basic function, the ICMPv6echo reply mechanism,the stateless address auto configuration, the router and prefix discovery, addressresolution, the next hop choosing of the neighbor discovery protocol and the supportingof the adapt layer routing.Secondly, the communication model of the TinyOS operating system is anlysed. TheIPv6protocol stack based on the TinyOS system is achieved in the wireless sensornetwork. It includes6LoWPAN module, IPv6basic module, ICMPv6module,statelessauto address configuration module,the netghbor discovery module and routing module.Finally, the simulation platform of the protocol stack is built. The testing of this IPv6protocol stack is passed by TOSSIM. The correctness of this protocol stack is verifiedby the testing.
