In recent years, the United States'opening up policy on GPS positioning system makes the positioning technology develop rapidly on civilian and personal consumption. The application is firstly used on Geological Survey and the other aspects of the field of vehicle navigation while the aspects of personal handheld devices require significant improving. With the advantages of small, convenient and easy to use, personal handheld devices rapidly integer into people's lives with the gradual maturity of the embedded technology and extensive application. The hand-held navigation device will have wide range of applications in the future. This topic combining the embedded technology and positioning and navigation technology develops hand-held navigation devices. The combination of two technologies will become a new research direction and also new trends on personal navigation applications.The topic designs one kind of GPS navigation and positioning with the ARM processor-based WinCE operating system. Based on understanding of the principles of navigation and WinCE operating system features and also the familiar with the ARM processor architecture, the topic designs the subject of hardware and software required for programming and achieves the desired results. We design the peripheral circuit based on the selection of the core circuit board, including the hand-held power circuit design, serial circuit design, LCD touching circuit, SD card interface circuit design and USB circuit. In terms of the software, we design and produce the navigation required electronic maps based on Google Earth and MapInfo and program the serial ,also extract and display the GPS latitude and longitude information and time, altitude and other information. We display the electronic maps on the PPC 2003 simulator and achieve some zoom-in ,zoom-out and other basic functions. Also we make the transplant CAB Development Kit needed to transplant the hardware and transplant the software under PPC2003 to the design of the hardware platform. At last, we connect the GPS module with the designed circuit. On the development of the hardware devices, the electronic maps and the location information are displayed. Also the path information and the playback and other functions are displayed.
