In recent years, Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) have attracted much attention because of their novel designs and unique properties. Particularly, the post-processing technique of PCFs is a fiber technique with special structured parameter that is obtained from dealing with existing fiber. Many kinds of optical devices could be realized by post-processing technique of PCFs. Presently, the controlled air hole collapse technique is a new PCFs'post-processing technique which is important to the realization of PCFs'potential value. This issue is based on the controlled air hole collapse technique and provides two new application methods of the post-processing technique:1. Briefly introduce the structured parameter, application and post-processing techniques of PCFs, and the development of this technique is mentioned as well.2. The controlled air hole collapse technique of PCFs can expand the core diameter by collapsing the center rings of air holes. Based on this, expanded core-tapered PCF combiner is provided and the total transmission loss is calculated. From the simulation: when enter different wavelength, the axial direction loss of expanded core-tapered PCF combiner is far less than using the traditional combiner. Specially, the new method improves the loss of long wave obviously. (The work has been published in Journal of Chinese Laser.)3. Taking use of controlled air hole collapse technique and taper technique, we can achieve the fiber anamorphic core of PCF and tapered PCF. At the same time, the method of connection between single mode fiber (SMF) and rectangular micro-waveguide by using the PCF with tapered anamorphic core that is from round core end to rectangular core end is provided. The result of simulation demonstrates that this method could reduce 2.823dB coupling loss comparing with the traditional method which connects the rectangular micro-waveguide and SMF directly. (The work has been published in Applied Optics.)4. The combined tapering of multi-channel MMFs is realized by the use of tube; also, the transmission efficiency of each route is measured. The result demonstrate that: the parallel tire tube process could achieve good quality combined tapering; average transmission efficiency is above 90%. This method is the foundation for study of reducing the loss of multi-mode fiber combiner, furthermore, for combined taper and combiner of multi-channel PCFs.
