Photonic crystal fiber (PCF) has been developing very fast until it was found. PCF is very different from conventional fibers. It has many excellent optical characteristics and its structure can be very different. So PCF has been applied in optical field especially laser filed more and more. Recently, reports about PCF applied for laser pulse compression and producing supercontinuum have got much attention. But because of PCF's special structure it can be broken more easily than conventional fibers. So the power of the incident light can not be too high. Aimed at this question we try to fusion splice PCF and conventional single mode fibers (SMF).We use conventional fiber fusion splicer to make PCF and SMF spliced together. And we need laser source and power meter to make sure the two fibers are exactly aligned. Then we make four different kinds of PCF spliced with SMF after setting suitable parameters of the fusion splicer. We summarize the effects of different parameters and the matters need attention when fusion spicing the fibers to get the minimum spicing loss. We also compare the air hole collapse of PCF with low air-filling fraction with that of PCF with high air-filling fraction. And the cause why they are different is state.We make another experiment to reduce the condition that PCF is broken to happening-fiber polishing. First make all of the air hole of PCF's one end collapse, then make it glued to SMA. Polish it on the fiber polisher after solidification to make a thin collapse field. This fiber can support much higher power. It was learned that no one has made similar experiment.Applying the fusion splice of PCF and SMF to produce supercontinuum can get a good supercontinue spectrum and the power of it is much higher than ordinary method. And when we use the PCF which was polished first to produce supercontinuum the output power is higher than fusion splicing the two fibers.
