Many military practice in the Information Era as war gaming, combat drill andweapons systems demonstration is becoming highly dependent on distributed simulationtechnology gradually. And the distributed simulation applications should be one of thecritical factors of combat effectiveness production and improvement indeed. It has beenthe main schema of distributed simulation systems development and implementation, that to complete the construction and operation of the application systems, relying onthe support environment under the standardized architecture, as technology advancesand practical demand changes. Thus, the architecture and relevant support environmentgreatly affects the efficiency and performance of application systems. Current HLA/RTIexposes higher technical requirements, unsatisfactory reusablity, weak dynamicresource and time management and other defects in the actual application, reducing thesystem development and operating efficiency. Therefore, the future distributed supportenvironment should focus on the evolving development of distributed simulationapplications, grasp the trend of business development correctly, bring in newtechnologies such as grid and services, to fill the existing system deficiencies andimprove the system performance continuously.Based on points of view above, this study focuses on the following aspects:1. On the basis of analysis of the architecture of distributed simulation supportsystem and the major problems of the present distributed simulation support technology, the trend of distributed simulation architecture is estimated;2. Drawing on concepts of HLA, grid and SOA, SSA (service-oriented simulationarchitecture) is designed, and a time synchronization method based on compoundedclock is presented to improve the support environment performance, and then thearchitecture of LRD(lightweight RTI for DIS) is also designed;3. According to the requirements of LRD architecture, the LRD prototype systemis completed, on the basis of the research and implement of relevant key technologies, including the time synchronization solution based on compounded clock, simple reliablemulticast technology and service localization technology;4. A combat simulation system development case is presented, to compareSSA/LRD with existing HLA/RTI on the capabilities for supporting the design anddevelopment of simulation systems and to demonstrate the effect and advantages ofSSA/LRD.The purpose of this study is to enhance capabilities of the distributed simulationsupport environment for supporting system development and operation, to explore thenew architecture and mechanism of distributed simulation support environment, toprovide some appropriate reference for the future ones.
