With the development of virtual reality,3D digital technology and computer aided design, the industrial design has been greatly prompted in scheme analysis and calculating, model retrieval, engineering drafting etc. However, more requirements are raised in the domains like large infrastructure and scene design and manufacturing, in which multi-user collaboration plays an important role. An annotation approach that is both human and machine readable is required to assist a designer to understand the non-geometry features of others'design works, i.e. the semantic features. Design reuse is supposed to be realized on geometry level and knowledge level, so that the accumulated knowledge in previous works is made full use of to reduce the tedious repetitive tasks and the possibility of conflicts with invisible domain rules. Meanwhile, the balance between light-weighted clients and the amount of data transferring and loading in web collaborative environment should be taken into consideration.This dissertation optimizes the semantic annotation technology, especially the ontology driven semantic annotation technology for web collaboration to share understanding on design works among users by solving the problems in supporting representation of graphics on the web and the side effect in loading and rendering web-format graphics with semantic annotations. The ontology is taken as knowledge repository and a hierarchical organization structure is proposed to manage it flexibly. With the annotations of design works, the common knowledge is extracted to conducts the subsequent designs to realize design reuse. The main contribution of this dissertation is listed as follows.1. A web collaboration oriented 3d scene design reuse framework with semantic driven is proposed with a complete mechanism that can be integrated with multi-user collaboration environment.2. The key problems in semantic modeling for 3D scene are solved for the subsequent semantic driven design reuse:(a) A hierarchical ontology organization managing structure is built as knowledge model to control the scale of data transferring and loading. (b) A semantic annotation approach is tailored for the web 3d model's representation to understand design works in a both human and machine readable way. (c) The calculating rules are given to make semantic modeling synchronize with solid modeling.3. The mechanism of extracting empirical knowledge from previous design's semantic models to generate the ontology to conduct subsequent design is given for design reuse on knowledge level.4. A prototype system is designed and implemented.The proposed semantic driven design reuse approach inherits the current semantic annotations frameworks and is extended in web 3d format, feature calculation and knowledge level reuse for supporting web collaboration. This research has reference value for computer aided 3d scene and industrial product design.
