The research topic involved in this thesis comes from the natural gas transmission project of someone city. Because the strict requirement of the natural gas transmission control system, a scheme in which siemens software redundancy technique is included is adopted. Software redundancy has been put into practice in many projects, although, there are few theoretical analysis about software redundancy's principle and its performance index. Making a further research on the topic is the main purpose of this paper.Firstly, the structure of a software redundancy system is illustrated, and a detailed analysis on the redundant backup software provided by siemens is made. Through this analysis, how redundant backup software blocks work and its principle are clarified. On the basis of a further research on software redundancy, two important performance indexes, data synchronization time and master-reserve change-over time are both analyzed, and some formulas are concluded. Then some methods to improve these performance indexes are brought up, and a theoretical analysis on software redundancy is made.Finally, the software redundancy is applied in the natural gas transmission control system, and some performance indexes are work out by these formulas. The achievement of this research provides important theoretical supports for software redundancy's applications.
