Multiwavelength laser sources are of great interest for many applications, such as dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems, optical fiber sensors and precise spectroscopy. Because multi-wavelength Brillouin-erbium fiber lasers (MW-BEFL) which based on cascaded SBS process in long SMF can operate at room temperature, it becomes the new focus in the multi-wavelength lasers. In this thesis, we concentrate on MW-BEFL. Severalworks are carried out as follow:1) Firstly, the development of fiber laser is summarized. And then the background and significance of multiwavelength laser is introduced. Afterwards the basic theory including stimulated Brillouin scattering, four-wave mixing process occurring in single mode fiber and Erbium-doped fiber amplifier is introduced respectively. Finally, the current status and future perspectives of MW-BEFL are discussed. Besides these, several typical schemes and operation principle of MW-BEFL are also introduced specifically.2) A multiwavelength Brillouin-Erbium fiber laser which utilized the enhanced effect of four-wave-mixing is investigated in the experiment. The width of spectra can be broadened by four-wave mixing.3) The characteristics of dual-cavity Brillouin-Erbium fiber laser are investigated. And we find that the operating wavelength of the BEFL varies with output coupling ratio.4) A simple dual-cavity Brillouin-Erbium fiber laser which generates multiple wavelengths with single and double Brillouin-frequency spacing is demonstrated.
