With the developing of'China Digital Seismological Observation Network' program of seismic system, earthquake observation data are widely realized by network transmission, informatization application & management. As the bottom level of industry information platform, network transmission is bearing kinds of business application of earthquake industry; the real-time characteristic and reliability become key factors of business stable operating. In view of the seismic network system's uninterruptible operation within 7*24 hours, it is difficult for the single communication channel between the upper network node and its lower network node to meet the unimpeded demand of network all the time, therefore, how to construct a backup network of backbone network system in the foundation of industry backbone network to realize the dynamic hot standby of backbone network and backup network, and ensure the reliability of data transmission become a task need prompt solution.This paper mainly study and analyze the configuration mode and realization process for the backup network of earthquake industry network. Firstly, several modes of backup of current network communication device is analyzed and compared; secondly, based on the analysis & compare, and combined with specific characteristics &condition of network application in earthquake industry, advantages of configuring the backup network which adopts VPN technology are studied, technology features and applicable scope of mainstream VPN are comprehensively analyzed and compared, IPSec,GRE and VPDN are selected as the main study objects; thirdly, technological method based on routing strategy for automatic switching of network is particularly discussed; thirdly, simulation test for VPN channels which will be adopted is carried out according to the project construction regulation and performing standard; in the last, comprehensive consolidating with the technology of VPN and routing protocol, etc, the backup network application for earthquake industry is configured and implemented. The preliminary application shows that the automatic switching of backbone network and backup network effectively improves the stability of network operating of earthquake industry, which ensures the integrity of data and information is unimpeded, that provide a high reliable base platform for the three big system including Monitoring & prediction, Earthquake disaster prevention and Emergency rescue, and ensures the smooth development of earthquake prevention and disaster reduction cause.
