Hybrid optoelectronic image processing can achieve recognition for target image based on the combination forms of optical correlation and digital image processing techniques. Vander Lugt correlator and Joint Transform Correlator (JTC) are typical Hybrid optoelectronic correlators. With the development of electronics and computer technology, Hybrid optoelectronic correlator is developing toward the real-time and programmable direction. At present, the recognition for distorted target is still a very difficult task in the field of optical correlation. In order to solve the bottleneck technology, the existing Maximum Average Correlation Height (MACH) algorithm is improved in this paper, which is firstly applied in the Vander Lugt correlator. Furthermore, The MACH filter, which belongs to the frequency domain, is projected to space domain. MACH reference image will be obtained, which is used in JTC to achieve the goal of real-time recognition. The results of computer simulation experiment and optical experiment show that MACH filter is a valuable recognition tool and has strong practicality. The recognition scope of distorted target is expanded. The MACH filter solves a problem that JTC is sensitive to the recognition for distorted target.
