The high-speed development of modern technology set higherrequirements for pattern recognition and computer vision. Photoelectricjoint transform correlation system is provided with large volumes ofinformation and two-dimensional parallel processing capabilities of jointtransform optical correlator; as well as the digital computer's advantages ofhigh precision, excellent flexibility, easy control and judgment and so on.Thus the photoelectric joint transform correlation pattern recognition hasbecome one of the most active research area in pattern recognition.First, the overall structure of photoelectric joint transform correlationsystem is described and the Joint Fourier transform theory is introduceddetailedly; the relation of the correlation peak position associated with theorientation of input image and the system involved parameters is analyzed.On the basis of analyzing the image information from correlation plane,rapid regional growth algorithm is presented, which can eliminate thediffraction spot on LCD screen and select automatically spot for DC lightspot; a new method—Threshold fast median filtering algorithm forcorrelation plane filtering is presented. Based on the aforementionedalgorithms, the application is developed, which has the ability to recognizetargets and ultimately receive the correlation peak coordinates.
