Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is consisted of a lot cheap nodes which are allocated in sensor region, is a brand-new information acquisition and processing technology. It integrates low-power radio communication technology, embedded computation technology, micro sensor technology and integrated circuit technology, and so on.It has great potential in application in many different areas, such as military, industry, agriculture, urban management, medical care and environment. The characteristics of WSNs are distinct from traditional wireless networks, such as data-centric, application-related, resource-limited, etc, which raise new issues for the research in WSNs.Owed to the serious restriction of energy on wireless sensor nodes, how to utilize the limited resource to prolong the lifetime of wireless sensor network, is becoming one of the hotspots in relevant fields.Based on PEGASIS, aimed at the deficiencies in PEGASIS, a new algorithm called ECBP is presented. The algorithm takes the remainder energy of nodes and the distances of the nodes to the BS, the stimulation results show that the algorithm has better performance in improving the lifetime of the network and balancing the energy consumption of nodes.An image acquisition system is also presented in this thesis. It is used to acquisite the image data in Wireless Sensor Networks. This system is composed of four models: processor model, communication model, image acquisition model and storage model. Under the control of processor, image acquisition model acquisites an image and store it in the storage model, then communication reads data from the storage model and transmits it until the image data is already read up and transmitted, ECBP algorithm is used in image acquisition wireless sensor network, stimulation shows that it could save some energy, it can do better than PEGASIS in prolonging the lifetime of the network and balancing energy consumption.
