Research And Implementation Of Handover Technology For WiMAX System

WiMAX is a type of broadband wireless access technology based on IEEE 802.16 standard, in which handover is one of its key functions. The study of handover technology of WiMAX networks is of high importance.With the experience gained in developing a WiMAX mobile IPTV & VoIP prototype system, the thesis systematically analyzes WiMAX network handover technology and develops WiMAX handover function software according to the standards defined by the network working group of WiMAX Forum.Firstly a review is given to WiMAX technical features and advantages. Following an overview of the network architecture and system functionalities, a systematic description is devoted to WiMAX handover standards. Then considering the application environment of WiMAX-CSN handover, the thesis proposes the movement detection technique and data integrity technique for CSN handover. And an improved control procedure is provided. Finally, the system design of handover functional software is presented, including the data structure, internal and external interfaces and state machine of HO module and ADD module. The completed program is developed in C independently by the author on Linux to fulfill the handover functionalities of WiMAX network.The testing results have shown that the developed handover functional software is of good style, reliability and stability and fully meets the requirements of the R&D project.
