This Thesis aims to design a route pre-judging method based on WiMAX local route, a selection algorithm of target BSs and a method of data path establishment after handoff.After introducing the IEEE802.16 standard, the basic working principle of the physical layer and MAC layer is presented, and then WiMAX network reference model and the mobility management functions are introduced. Mobility management mainly refers to the management of handoff and management of data Path. Handoff is an important characteristic of wireless mobile networks; it not only affects call service quality at the BSs edges, but also has close relationship with the network load, resource utilization, and system performance. Handoff mechanism includes an efficient handoff algorithm and a complete handoff procession. Therefore, a complete and optimization handoff mechanism are critical to the whole performance of system. In addition, data path occupies system resources. So how to establish a complete data path also has great significance to system resources.After the analysis of the existing standards of the handoff process and the defect of traditional target BSs selection algorithm, an improving target BSs selection algorithm is given. The existing process of establishment of data path and the defect of the method of the whole Data path establishment are presented and analyzed. Then a method of fragment establishment of Data path base on route status after handoff is presented which can reduce unnecessary establishment and can release free resources.We can come to the conclusion that the routing test after handoff can be omitted due to the method of route pre-judgement, the improved algorithm of target BSs selection can take the initiative to promote local routing in order to save transmission resources. In addition, the method of fragment establishment of Data path also has the advantage of saving transmission resources. Finally, these methods have been applied for a national patent.
