With the rapid development of different service requirements, different kinds of new wireless access technologies are emerging. Multiple wireless access technologies co-exist and complement each other has been an important characteristics of the next generation network. In the heterogeneous wireless network, user mobility and diversity service requirements make great challenges to traditional mobility management. Therefore, how to improve location management and handoff management of heterogeneous network to provide seamless roaming for users has become a key issue.At first, related technologies of mobility management in heterogeneous wireless network are introduced. Then three aspects are mainly studied:(1) In LTE-A, a Gauss-Markov mobility model based handover prediction algorithm is proposed. Simulations results show that compared with the traditional handover algorithm, the proposed algorithm can effectively reduce the handover failure probability and cut dowm the unnecessary handovers times. Meanwhile, it can successed in impoving the throughput of the entire network.(2) Based on current network structure, an optimization group mobility location management strategy is proposed, in which the location management of group proxy represents that of all mobile terminals, thus redundant operations are reduced. Simulation results reveal that the proposed optimization location management method can effectively decrease the total system signaling overhead as well as save network spectrum resources.(3) A terminal side mobility management platform of heterogeneous wireless network is designed and implemented to manage the mobility of vararious heterogeneous terminals. Firstly, operations such as the discovery, register and authentication of heterogeneous terminal are accomplished through WLAN. In addition, we build a video transmission system, where under the control of platform, multiple mobile terminals cooperate to to transmit video data. Experimental results show that the platform can effectively increase the video transmission rate and improve the experience of quality of users. Finally, conclusions are given and the next work of our research is presented.
