The medium and small-sized enterprises are playing an important role in the development of economy in China. At present, large numbers of these enterprisese are located in a large area with a large span of industry distribution. With the integrating of world economy and China becoming a member of WTO, these medium and small-sized enterprises will face severe challenges from the overseas-funded enterprise as well as from overseas products and services. Thus, a successful business management in many aspects must draw support from the informationization to a great extent. However, the level of informationization in these Chinese small and medium-sized enterprises is at a low starting stage compared with those of the overseas-funded enterprises. Along with the technological development, the operation and the management of computer has been simplified and computer literacy has been popularized day by day. In order to deal with the quickly changeable market economy and intense competion, the adoption of computers in such links like sales, purchasing, inventory (SPI) has also become an inevitable tendency. The purpose of this research is to design and develop a relatively interchangable management information system, which can regulate and manage the daily purchasing, sales, warehousing, accounting and other services. The system aims at improving the level of informalizaiton and management of small and medium enterprises in China, increasing the working efficiency and providing a convenient and practical information platform for business managers to keep abreast of the daily operation of the enterprises. This article first introduces the research background, significance, purpose and favorable conditions of the management information system of SPI. Secondly, it describes the development methods and related technologies, including management information system, object-oriented analysis and system development methods, development process, principles of desinging etc, to provide a theoretical basis for the analysis and design of the system. Then it further analyzes requirements of the system in detail, including the system's business requirements, users'requirements and system functional requirements, etc. In addition, the use case diagrams of the system and use case description are put forward. Next, based on an object-oriented analysis, the author carries out the overall design and module design of the management system, including such functional modules like procurement management, storage management, sales management, financial management modules. Class diagram, sequence chart, flow chart of the core functions of treatment are provided in this article to elaberate and illustrate the content of the design. After designing the database and showing the ER diagram and table of the database design, the author explains the system's hardware architecture and software architecture acording to B/S architecture. Finally, the operating environment of the system, development tools and back-end database etc. are analyzed and selected. By doing so, the author provides a foundation for coding and implementation of the system. In the end, a summary as well as a prospect of the small and medium enterprises SPI management system are presented.
