With the development of IC (Integrated circuit), EDA has become an important method for designing electronic system, and it is now widely in numerous fields, like analog circuit and digital circuit. FPGA is only one technique of EDA. Because of its good performance, low cost, flexibility and power consumption, the processor based on FPGA has been used in signal processing. Flow measurement is an important part of measuring science, which has close relation with industrial and agricultural production, national defense, scientific research and people's life. Particularly in nowadays, energy crisis and the deep of industrial production automation, the role of flow meter is more and more evident. In the cross-correlation flow measurement technology, a cross-correlator with low-cost, rapid operating speed and complete functions is seen as an important part for related flow measurement technology's industrial application. It is a new attempt to introduce FPGA into the design of the correlator.This paper first describes the development of related flow measurement, and then proposes the design principle of the flow system. It focuses on the analysis and comparability of the basic relevant algorithm and then improves correlation algorithm. The relation feature of random is tested under different sampling frequency, different noise and different system functions under the software platform Matlab. Finally, digital correlator is realised by Verilog language under software Quartusâ…ˇ. After simulation and verification through Modelsim, the programme is loaded in DE2-70 development board. The results show that the design of the cross correlator has the feature of high speed, reliability and can meet the requirement of real time.
