| With the development of science and technology, end users not only need voice communications, but also require data, image and integrated communications. However, the access technology based on copper cable for the physical entity can not meet users'requirements of data, image and others. As "the last one kilometer" of the information highway, access network technology has become the bottleneck through the development about today's communications network to the next generation.PON is an emerging optical broadband access technology which covered the last one kilometer. The technologies applied to PON emerge one after another, such as APON, BPON, EPON, GPON, and so on. All of these technologies further advanced the development of optical access network. While working in China Unicom Corporation, the author participated in the EPON network construction project, obtained the EPON applied experience through practices.Firstly, the paper introduced the basic concepts of optical access network, included the function configuration, topology structure. Then introduced the the structure and functions of the PON technologies. Finally overview and compare the technologys which based on PON such as APON/BPON, EPON, GPON.Secondly, described EPON operation principle, system construction, the key technical advantages. Then, analysed three applied models about EPON.The paper focus on analysed some common customer scenes, different customer scenes have different communication requirements and network feature, the paper gives different EPON proposal,the advantage and dis advantage of the proposal.Finally, combined work practices, analysed Xingkang residence community EPON access network construction project and summarized experience, pointed out that EPON technology is mature. With the cost drop of the optical fibre and equipment, the high bandwidth requirements about various kinds of application, EPON will obtain more extensive use and development in access schemes in future. |
