With the development of foll service, the bandwidth-based service will explosively grow in the next few years. The large particles services have the trend to be extended to the convergence layer. Early exploration of the bandwidth-based service carrying strategy in the metro transport networks will be forward-looking significant.Firstly by analyzing carrying business features, bandwidth and flow characteristics in the metro transport networks, the paper explores the joint network strategy, service operation mode of the OTN technology in the backbone and convergence layer of the metro transmission network. Two kinds of OTN networking model across the convergence layer and backbone layer are proposed and analyzed:loosely coupled mode and tightly coupled mode. Detailed analysis of the distributed convergence mode and the concentrated convergence mode of the joint network strategy of the OTN and PTN is made. This paper also analyzes the joint network strategy of the OTN and PTN, PON, dedicated service networking. Finally, Several aspects, such as the cost of technology, the node selection criteria, operation and maintenance management, and device configuration are discussed when the OTN technology is introducted to the convergence layer.In short, OTN convergence layer will help to simplify the deployment of intermediate-level transport network, reduce network complexity, so that the transmission network will be more compact, efficient, It improve will large- particle services scheduling capabilities in the transmission networks.
