Linear Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave (LFMCW) Radar is a radar system whose frequency is modulated linearly by which the target information of range and velocity can be abtained. Because it has the advantages such as no range blind area, high range resolution and simple structure and so on. Thus LFMCW Radar has great potential applications in both military and civil fields. However, the research and application of LFMCW laser radar fall far behind overseas. The principle of heterodyne detection and symmetry triangular wave LFMCW Radar for range and velocity measurement were researched. Then confirmed the scheme that using symmetry triangular wave to modulates laser frequency and heterodyne detection, the LFMCW laser experimental system for range and velocity measurement was establish.Confirmed the proper modulation parameters which modulation voltage was 3V and modulation frequency was 1 KHz,so the modulation bandwidth was about 18MHz. Based on this successed to measure the range and velocity of a single target. Through experimental validation and analysis, the scheme of a prototype system for range and velocity measurement using LFMCW laser has been suggested.
