With the purpose of reducing the communication routing delay and improving the resource utilization in current WiMAX system based on conventional routing mechanism, we design and realize the WiMAX local routing system. Based on the analysis of the lack of conventional routing scheme, we determine to use the distributed method of establishing the upper and lower data path as the core idea of local routing system, aimed at doing the judgment of whether to use local routing in data aggregation point which is closest to the user. Gateway should process the signaling interactions with BS and MS efficiently, so we define the precise signaling processes and XML specification, elaborate the signal process flow of each function in the gateway side, and design the mechanism of data storage and routing forwarding process. This paper focuses on achieving to realize the gateway local routing function, so we build a demonstration system to highlight its relative advantages of the conventional route. First, after analysis the systerm protocol stack model, we determine to use the Qt platform. Second, based on the analysis and description of the key functional modules of the gateway, we intriduce the process of gateway startup, user access, and the upper and lower data path establishment. Third, with the combination of the third chapter’s theoretical exposition and the analysis of the various modules, we could get overall local routing function of gateway. Finally, we use demonstration system based on Qt platform to verify the effectiveness of the local routing system. The different path of conventional routing and local routing when established uplink and downlink data path, which could fully proved that the local routing system not only reduce unnecessary communication paths and the network communication delay, but also improve the utilization of network resources.
