With people's pursuit of modern life and increasing demand for information, Smart Home has been developed rapidly. Due to their vast application prospects, 3G and the Internet of Things will introduce a new concept to the developing process of Smart Home industry. Home Gateway is the core in the communication between inside and outside of Smart Home. Meanwhile, it is also the carrier of remote control, video monitoring, and multimedia communication and so on; it directly determines the performance of Smart Home. Therefore, the study of Smart Home Gateway is of great significance to the industry.Based on the hardware platform of OMAP3530 dual-core CPU and the research of home network and the embedded technologies, the smart home gateway, built on embedded Linux2.6 kernel and file system has been realized with the integrated functions of 3G mobile broadband surfing, call/SMS, home network and remote monitoring of the household equipments.Firstly, the paper introduces the development of 3G and the Internet of Things, and describes the status and trend of Smart Home and its gateway. It compares several key technologies of home network, and then the technical standards to be used are decided. Secondly, according to the function of Smart Home, system requirements are analyzed, the overall structure of the design is designed, and the software design on the embedded Linux 2.6 is described in detail, including the OS transplantation and device driver development of related modules. What's more, the thesis attaches great importance on the the key technologies of the system software platform, including PPP dial-up, call/SMS, NAT and DHCP. Finally, the debug steps of system test are also conducted and the results and problems encountered are analyzed respectively. In conclusion, the fruits of the thesis are summarized and key points and direction of the further research are elaborated.
