As the development of the communications network, the requirements about the transmission network of the user become more and more important. The relationship of the modern society and the communications network can't be separated. The SDH(Synchronous Digital Hierarchy)Network enjoys a distant edge over others networks(such as:The PDH Network) because of the advantages of itself. It is the development direction of the network in future. So we must focus on the survival ability of the SDH Network.In my article we will study the ability of the SDH Network protection. Firstly, we describe the basic principle of The SDH, technology, physical topology, several typical protected modes of The SDH. Make comparisons about different protected rings. The survival ability of The SDH Network will be changes with the protected-type, the distribution of information and so on. The maximum amount of information in different protected modes, what are the selective analysis objects we pay close attention to. Our purpose is to find out an optimum performance protected network. Last ,we analyze the application of SDH in practice, the existing defects, and submit prioritization scheme. In two actual cases, we discuss the Fault Locating Methods about The Path Protection and The Multiplex Section Protection. From protected-architecture, protected-performance, to protected-types and application we do a systematic analysis.
