Tactical frequency hopping communication network plays a significant role in the military communication. Multiple access is the key technology in networking, which has a tremendous impact on the network performance. This paper focuses on the research of TDMA networking protocol for VHF frequency hopping radios. The central research work is listed as follows:Firstly, a TDMA networking protocol which supports voice relay and simultaneous voice and data transmission is designed. The protocol supports up to thirty two nodes in one network. The network can transmit one bidirectional relay voice or two bidirectional direct voices, and data packets transmission supports both unicast and broadcast with automatic routing.Secondly, the TDMA networking protocol is implemented on the VHF frequency hopping radio. First of all, the detailed design and signal scheduling mechanism are achieved using SDL. Then the modules of the protocol are implemented using C language on ARM9 processor. Finally, through exhaustive tests, we accomplish all the predetermined functions, such as the network synchronization, voice transmission, data packet transmission, automatic routing, and prove the robustness and feasibility of the protocol.
