With the development of virtual reality and computer graphics technologies, simulation of three-dimensional scenery animation has become a research focus, which has urgent application demands in many fields, such as games, animation, film, advertising, visual simulation, military, etc. At present, studies on simulation of natural scenery animation are implemented mainly based on Direct3D, which makes interaction not very good and which results in limited application on family computer because of huge number of data. Aimed at these difficulties, simulation of scenery animation based on OpenGL is proposed. In the process of constructing the object model, considering the characteristics of OpenGL, the traditional construction method is broken through, and the idea of classification structure is put forward to achieve the structure of object. In the simulation of terrain, a triangle strips grid to describe DEM model is presented for terrain. Using OpenGL function library and double Buffering and texture mapping technology, the dramatic animation is achieved. Based on the research of OpenGL, by using Quick Time7SDK and the function StartMovie(), the sound is realized in the scene.Based on the Windows environment, we use C language library functions and OpenGL programming to achieve the required algorithm, and obtain good test results.
