In recent years, with the development of virtual reality and computer graphics technologies, realistic simulation of natural scenery animation has become a research hotspot, which is widely applied in many fields, such as games, animation, film, advertising, visual simulation, military .etc. At present, studies on simulation of natural scenery animation are implemented mainly based on OpenGL or Direct3D, which make interaction not very good and limited application on internet because of huge number of data. However, with the popularization of Internet technology, the demand of web-based applications has been increasing greatly. Aimed at these difficulties, simulation of natural scenery animation (wave dynamic effect of wheat field, tree swaying in wind, fountain and ocean wave) based on VRML is proposed.Considering the characteristics of VRML, in the simulation of wavy dynamic effect of wheat fields, inter-frame modeling is employed for wheat modeling, and the idea of "Fluctuating Time Interval" is put forward to achieve wavy dynamic effect of whole wheat fields, which also give a new idea for related animation modeling. In the simulation of trees swaying, the parametric tree modeling with the combination of geometry and image is adopted, and the motion of branches and leaves are calculated based on mechanics of materials theory, finally a realistic simulation of the trees swaying is achieved. In the simulation of fountain, the classical particle system is improved by using a certain number of particles instead of infinite particles generated continuously, which make calculation time reduce greatly, so real-time simulation is guaranteed. In real-time simulation of ocean wave, by study and contrast on common ocean wave model, a simple wave model is adopted, and the real-time simulation of ocean waves is implemented by ElevationGrid node, texture mapping and LOD technology.The simulation of animation effects mentioned have been applied in the development of 3D modeling platform, which demonstrates the feasibility of the methods, and real-time and realistic simulation of natural scenery animation for web application is achieved.
