In the light of folklore theory, this thesis adopts field survey and literature studyreview to explore the boundary between performative folklores in the multi-culturalcontext of Avitain village from the perspective of general performative folklores. Thestudy of the significance of existence of boundary of performative folklores is basedon the study of the type and characteristics of performative folklores as well as thereflection, cause and influence of boundary of performative folklores in Avitain. Thefield survey reveals that the performative folklores are colorful in terms of bothcontent and form. They are characterized by self-entertainingness, stability andcollectivity. The boundary of performative folklores is reflected in independence ofthe cultures, boundaries between different types of performative folklores, cognitivedifference in collective participation and hierarchies in in-depth participation. Theboundary of performative folklores is resulted from difference in language andreligious belief, taboo exclusiveness and nation-specificity of cultures. The literaturereview makes it clear that cultures in national exchange do not completely influenceeach other. There exists boundary. The existence of boundary of performativefolklores is a double-blade sword. On the one hand, it helps to preserve thecharacteristics of national cultures, which is crucial in passing down some traditionalcustoms of nations from generation to generation. On the other hand, it makesdifficult the spreading and understanding of national cultures. It prevents people ofdifferent nations from having a profound understanding of other national cultures.Besides, boundary of performative folklores is studied in combination withpreservation of intangible cultural heritage. It is suggested that the positive influenceof boundary of performative folklores should be reasonably made used of to servepreservation of national cultures and that its negative effect should be appropriatelymediated so that people of different nations appreciate, learn from and respect eachother.
