With the development of modern society, physical exercise conditions of middle andprimary school students and their physical fitness have increasingly become the focus ofmany countries, which reflect the social and spiritual civilization. The passage concentrateson the current conditions and the problems of students' physical exercise in Wuhan'scompulsory education.600students selected randomly from three primary schools and threemiddle schools in Wuhan take part in the survey under the help of related materials, questionnaires, interviews and logical methods. The results will be studied and analyzed withrealities. The results indicate several aspects of current conditions and problems. Studentswho are now in the compulsory educational period in Wuhan spend little time in exercisingand engage in low intensive exercise both inside and outside school. In addition to theclass-break setting-up exercise and PE classes established by schools, seldom will thestudents of this period take up exercise in and out of schools. Because of lack of exercise overa long period of time, many physical and mental problems occur among primary and middleschool students. For example, overweight and obesity, bad physical coordination, loweyesight, etc. what are particular serious are that some basic indexes reflecting the physicalconditions are declining. Those indexes include vital capacity, speed, endurance, power, flexibility and so on. Some students even suffer from those mental problems such as beingunsociable and eccentric, self-closing, hot-temper and moodiness. These conditions mustdraw much attention from schools, families and society.Students in the nine years' compulsory education are the flowers of the country, the hostsof the nation's future and also the pillars of the country's development. Therefore it is verybeneficial and helpful for them to form good exercising habits and build up healthy body inorder to pursue long-term healthy physical and mental development. Moreover, it ismeaningful to study the topic in the golden period of students' physical development andpersonality formation. Studying and discovering the problems, on the one hand, help thesociety, families and schools, and on the other hand, provide theoretical basis and objectiverealities for research so as to improve students' physical fitness. At the same time, it is hopefulfor students in compulsory education grow healthily in physical and mental development.
