With the advent of the post-modern context, the concept of play penetrates every subject. With the further and further development of the new wave of Chinese course in senior high, the new educational idea, that is, taking people as orient and concerning on the individuals, which is combined with the theory of play, was realized. Under the background, this paper researches the relation between the spirit of play and teaching of Chinese reading in the senior high school. This study has some positive significance in the reform of Chinese reading situation. Play is a complicated notion with profound deposit and coverage. This includes play and art, play and promoting an all-round development of mankind, which is the theoretical foundation of the subject. Thereupon, the enlightenment of the concept of play on the reading teaching is on spirit level rather than serving or acting as a means or aid. The spirit of play has the following meanings:freedom, creative, enjoyment, experience, openness etc. It is founded on the emancipation of the mind and the reform of practice teaching. While in ideal, do not lean too much on the structural reform of education but on the emancipation of the mind. First, we should realize that there are no direct relation between the college entrance examination and reading teaching. So, the teaching of Chinese reading in the senior high school can escape being thrown off the chains of college entrance examination system. Second, we should remove some utilitarian objectives, like education in national patriotism, moral enlightenment and establishing new teaching objectives on construction ultimate spiritual values. Third, we should use the dialogical theory to establish a reading teaching model with the spirit of play. While in practice, the most important reform is teaching content reform. Teaching content of Chinese reading in the senior high school is being outmoded for a long time. Each literary style has different extreme formalism in reading teaching content. Therefore, we should make a concrete analysis of concrete conditions. Directing against the teaching of poem teaching, poem is in close touch with play from ancient times. The poem teaching ought to be full of play spirit, but in fact it is quite strange, colorless and uneager to student. So the channel between poem and life should be opened firstly. Then, to the current situation of laying too much stress on the Chinese classical poetry but neglecting the Chinese modern poetry and the foreign poetry in poetry reading, we should solve it through compiling teaching materials by ourselves which including the different kinds of poetical work. Prose is a very free and individual style. It is interlinked with play too. However, in many high schools, prose teaching is closed. The problem is caused by narrowness:of outlook, of experience, of taste, of thinking. The urgent task on hand is to accumulate rich esthetic experience by reading extensively. And then, break our copy thinking, cultivate their multitude innovative thinking, divergent thinking, and reactionary imagination ability and construct new prose teaching mode----Critical reading and Innovative reading which are full of play spirit. Novel is a interesting literary style. Lots of students only focus on the intricate plot of novel. This is a lowest level aesthetic appreciation. Novel teaching content is restricted in character; environment and plot. There are two respects for the reasons:one is the influences from the theory of class analysis, and the other is lack of some new novel theory for reading. Turning the apparent angle from the context of society and class to rich, full life, and using the advanced theory of the novel are feasible approaches for promoting the play spirit of novel reading teaching. The reading teaching full of play spirit is an ideal form. The study of the subject should be endless. But at the same time we must prevent the specious play which is lack of play spirit.
