In this passage, the methods of literature, surveys, expert interviews, statistics and logical analysis are used. The passage takes the professional development and adaptability of college PE teachers in northern Jiangsu as research aim. The research starts from the requirement from the time development on the professional development. The passage, based on the survey on the status of the professional development of PE teacher, analysis the professional development and adaptability of college PE teachers in northern Jiangsu, and proposed the development countermeasures. As to the important role of PE teachers in the talent training, the role in promoting the overall development of PE teachers, and raise the adaptation to the future society and professions, this study shows an important theoretical and practical value.The results show that: the college PE teachers in northern Jiangsu have a correct perception for professional development; nearly forty percent of teachers have strong desire to develop. The vast majority of teachers have their own professional development goals, and the developments motive is clear and diversified. The overall situation of teacher professional identity and satisfaction is good, but it shows two different trends. Most teachers have the correct conception of education, but some teachers need to improve their integration teaching theory and teaching practice. The teachers have increased levels of physical education since the implementation of Syllabus, but the mastering the educational methods is insufficient. Despite the urgent desire to improve the level of scientific research, the teachers have a weak research capacity, and haven't formed a literature-reading habit. The structure of the teachers'professional development is not good, nor is the overall development adaptability. Since 2008, only about one-third of teachers participated in professional development training activities. As for the professional development, there is a gap between teacher's cognition and behavior. More colleges and universities have started professional development program for PE teachers, and PE teachers' professional development needs more family's support.The measures to improve the professional development and adaptability of college PE teachers in northern Jiangsu: changing notion, strengthening the self-quality; establishing a scientific and reasonable evaluating system for teacher's professional development, to promote the development of teacher by using the developmental evaluation index; improving the teacher's in-service (continuing) education training model. focusing on the continuity and effectiveness of the integration of the pre-vocational education and post- vocational education; the joint efforts from the government, the community and the schools to promote the teacher's professional development and to improve the adaptability; strengthening the inter-regional exchange of teachers, to form a new models of mutual promotion and development; establishing the concept of the professional development adaptability, accelerating education system reform and innovation, establishing and improving the teacher's professional development regulations.
