This dissertation outlines the concept of autonomous study and its theory, and a survey of the status quo of Grade 9 students'autonomous study abilities is made before the research. It also elaborates the strategies to implement the autonomous study and the ways to create a class teaching pattern of autonomous study in junior high school chemistry teaching. Then a practical research on how to implant autonomous study in chemistry teaching is done based on the theory and facts. Finally, an evaluation is presented by observing the students'learning behaviour and comparing the students'own autonomous study experience and the scores of experimental classes and normal classes before and after the practical research. The results of the research shows the abilities of the Grade 9 students'self-awareness, learning methods, learning habits and self-control are improved as well as their marks in exams.
