This thesis tends to combine teaching practice to point out the problems in the cooperative learning in senior school English teaching and to explor the causes and strategies for them. Not only is cooperative learning a new teaching theory and strategy, but also is a new kind of teaching and learning advocated by new curriculum reform. It introduces cooperative group work into class, and constructs the tidimensional structure between students and teachers, making all-sided reform in class teaching system realized. The thoery of cooperative learning believes that by working togather students can impove academic performance, social techniques, enhance learning enthusiasm and promote the relationship between learners, especially between different races.However, there are some inefficient phenomena such as teacher's inappropiate organizing, students'lack of sense of cooperation, low efficiency and so on. By analyzing the causes for that and exploring the pragmaticality of cooperative learning, we can find that there is great academic and practical value for teachers to arouse the students'enthusiasm and initiatives for learning and to improve teaching quality.The structure of the thesis is as follows:The first part is preface. This thesis tries to know about the present studying situation and points out the problems in teaching practice, which also states the necessity and value in studying the causes and strategies for cooperative learning inefficiencies. Besides, the new ideas of this thesis lie in the author's combining senior English and the characteristics of senior students to find out strategies to deal with the problems.Chapter One analyses the current situation of cooperative learning, based on the practice of cooperative learning in a senior school of Hebei. Meanwhile, I point out the problems behind its development, and then introduce the topic.Chapter Two explains the causes for inefficiency from three aspects: the misuse of teaching tactics and learning tactics, onesideness of evaluation of cooperative learning.Chapter Three presents the strategies of improving the efficiency of cooperative learning, which include teacher's developing ideas, teacher's teaching strategies, students'learning strategies and scientific assessment system.
