Higher vocational education has become an essential part of the higher education in China. Recently, with the development of economy, higher vocational education in China is faced with the ever best chance for developing, yet also with lots of problems. As for the teacher performance management commonly carried out in higher vocational colleges, there are definitely benefits reaped from practice, but shortcomings to be solved. For example, the manager of higher vocational colleges has a poor awareness of performance management; there is no clear difference between performance evaluation and performance management; performance evaluation index cannot reflect the characteristic of higher vocational colleges; and there is obviously no performance feedback and communication in the process of performance management. On the basis of the survey on personnel department and some teachers and of the real-case analysis of the teacher performance management carried out in Jiang Xi Vocational Technical Colleges of Industry and Trade, the paper aims to present the methods and strategies for the improvement of teacher performance management for higher vocational colleges. Those methods and strategies can be briefed as followed. The concept of teacher performance management needs to be innovated. Such key standards for checking as enrollment, employment and practical skills need to be added. Communications and feedback need to be emphasized. It is also essential to add such methods as professional training and technical occupation promotion.The conclusion reached by the paper is that teacher performance management in higher vocational colleges should represent the system of higher vocational education. And then it should be a system keeping improving. Finally, the application of the result of performance checking should have an inspiring effect on teachers.
