In Chapter One, the writer first elaborates the necessity of the study, namely the practical significance. Next, the writer completely introduces the present situation on the Phonics research at home and abroad. From this, the author finds that Phonics is regarded as the best and the most efficient way to teach the native speakers how to read and spell. And overseas, most researches that have been done are about Phonics Teaching and the relation between children's ability to encode the words and their ability to read. And the object of the study is mainly aimed at the children who speak English as the first language. In China, there have been many people engaged in studying Phonics. However, their objects of their study are mainly aimed at the primary school students who are studying English.Chapter Two first explains the definition of Phonics. It refers to the reflection between a phoneme and a letter or a letter group. You will be able to pronounce out a word directly according to its spelling or spell out a word directly according to its pronunciation without the help of International Phonetic if you master these reflection rules. If students grasp these rules, they can easily pronounce or spell the words and memorize their pronunciations and spellings quickly and easily. Therefore, they can learn English easily, quickly and efficiently. And they can finish more tasks with less time and less energy. Next, the report analyses the theoretical basis of Phonics Psychologically. It's called Transfer Theory. Phonics just makes good use of the similarity between the Chinese pinyin and English phoneme according to the positively--oriented transfer theory. Phonics is very good for students to grasp the reflections between the English phonemes and the letters or the letter groups. It's also rather helpful for students to pronounce some words quickly and correctly, and then easily memorize these words. Then the report thoroughly expounds the fundamental principles:the letters or the letter groups standing for the 44 basic phonemes. (Namely it's the pronunciations of the letters or the letter groups rather than the names of the letters or the letter groups). At the end of Chapter 2, the writer specifically clarifies seven advantages of Phonics in the practical teaching activity.Chapter Three mainly introduces the objects of the study, the methods of the study and the procedures of the experiment. In September,2010 the author had a few interviews with the English teachers for Grade 7 and knew that they usually teach the words in a traditional way. Also, the author had several interviews with some students in Grade 8 and knew about how they were getting on their English and their trouble with English. As well, the writer did a survey about how they were getting on their English and their trouble with English by using the questionnaire. From those, the author put forward the research subject--- the teaching application of Phonics that is aimed at the new students in Grade 7 who have never studied English. Next, the writer clarifies something about the experiment she has done. The writer specifically clarifies five measures, six steps and the notes in the teaching experiment. During the year, the author teaches Class 1 Grade 7 and Class 2 Grade 7. So she has done the experiment by contrasting Class 1 with Class 2. In Class 1 she has been teaching words in the way called Phonics, while teaching in a usual way in Class 2. In the one-year project, the students have taken four great exams. The gotten numbers are real and effective. And the author has collected and calculated the numbers by Microsoft Office Excel. As well, the author has analyzed the numbers in different ways and gotten the results of the study. The result shows that Phonics can really increase the efficiencies of the English class. It's also very good for students to memorize words easily. And it's good for students to keep the enthusiasm for English-studying, interest in studying English and confidence in studying English. And the students in Class 1 will get much better grades unless the students in Class 2 who have the same quality in English spend much more time learning the same contents about English. Of course, and the students in Class 1 are much more relaxed and happier. So Phonics is valuable to be spread in the rural middle school whose students have never studied English.
