With the increasing popularity of the sport on the campus, the course of table tennis has been one of college students'favorite optional courses. The sport can not only promote students'development morally, intellectually and physically but also enrich their campus life. Moreover, it is an ideal way of body-building. Therefore, it is essential for colleges and universities to set up the course, which can promote students'physical and intellectual development as well as the popularization of the game in colleges and universities.By using the sports science research methods of literature, questionnaire, logical analysis, mathematical statistics, the author made a thorough research on the teaching status quo of table tennis in the six colleges and universities in the city of Xi'an. The aspects of the research include the status quo of the curriculum elements, the teachers and students, facilities, extracurricular activities. Based on the systematic and objective analysis, the author has identified the factors that influence the development of the table-tennis teaching in the colleges and universities, and put forward reasonable and feasible solutions. The results are as follows:1. The teachers of table tennis in Xi'an colleges and universities are mostly young or middle-aged. The distribution of education among the teachers is unreasonable with the lack of professors. Professional teachers are rare and non-professional teachers with weak researching capabilities dominate in teaching.2. The colleges and universities in Xi'an do not pay much attention to the training of teachers of table tennis.3. Most teachers overemphasize the teaching of skills, which is not good for the development of students in an all-round way. Besides, the teaching contents are much too competitive while the teaching methods are monotonous.4. The scientific organization of teaching by the teachers can promote teaching.5. The textbooks used in most colleges and universities in Xi'an are written by their own teachers which take into consideration the specific situation of each school, so they are more practical.6. The evaluation system exiting in these colleges and universities is not reasonable, which can not comprehensively reflect the learning situation of the students.7. The stadiums and equipment for table tennis can not meet the needs of the teaching and learning as well as the practice.8. Students have a great interest in learning table tennis while their movements are universally not correct.9. There is lack of effective and correct guidance for students after class and the competition of table tennis between schools and the municipal and provincial race are rare.
