The biological curriculum reform system, centered on cultivating and developing students'scientific literacy, requires a corresponding assessment system in which emphasis should be laid on students' overall development rather than exam-oriented abilities. The assessment system should serve the purpose of motivating students' life-time development, enhancing students'moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor abilities, and satisfying students'sense of achievements to stimulate the driving force of learning. The paper, based on the outline of national curriculum reform and curriculum standards for high school, refers to some outstanding educational philosophy of development assessment and illustrates some relevant elements of development assessment. The author applies the development assessment theory to high school biology teaching practice through a series of methods, such as literature review, questionnaire investigation, experiment inquiry, successfully sums up some reliable implementation methods of the theory in high school biology class, and explores some possible high school biology classroom-teaching mode associated with the theory to promote students'overall and lifelong development.Studies show that the use of development assessment in high school biology class can not only guarantee students the expected knowledge, improve related abilities, but enable students to set appropriate outlook on life, values and the world, ripen students'personalities and promote social development.
