Junior high school is the key period to develop students' data literacy.The data literacy assessment of junior high school students will also point out the direction of school data literacy education.Therefore,the development of a set of standardized and promotable data literacy assessment program will help to promote the development of data literacy education in China.First of all,by discussing the relationship between data and scientific inquiry,this paper proposes to take scientific inquiry as the entry point to evaluate data literacy.Then,the assessment framework was constructed based on the ECD model,and the evaluation domain and indexes were determined.The evaluation field indicates the knowledge content and practice process of evaluation,and the evaluation index determines the evaluation dimension and specific evaluation tasks.Finally,evaluation tools were developed according to specific evaluation tasks,including a set of paper-and-pencil situational evaluation questions(24 questions in total)and an attitude questionnaire(20 questions in total).Through the analysis of 133 Grade 9 subjects' assessment results founed that :(1)The overall difficulty coefficient of the assessment tool is 0.54.1 item's discrimination was substandard(r<0.11).Assessment tool's reliability coefficient was 0.77.There is no overlap in the score distribution of the students in high and low groups.(2)45.86% of the students' data literacy scores were between(40.00,60.00],and there was no significant difference in the level of data literacy between different genders,but boys had more positive attitude towards data and scientific inquiry than girls((P <0.01)).Meanwhile,the score of data literacy was significantly correlated with the subjects' attitude towards data and scientific inquiry(r = 0.28,P < 0.01).The results show that:(1)The difficulty of data literacy assessment is appropriate,and the reliability and validity are good,which can be used in in subsequent promotion.(2)The data literacy of junior high school students is generally at the middle level of the students' data cognition and operation ability at this stage,the development of each dimension of students' data literacy is relatively balanced.(3)The ability of students to observe,read and compare data is better than the ability of collecting,recording and reasoning data.Therefore,it is necessary to strengthen the training of students' manipulative ability,reasoning and analyzing experimental data in school science education.(4)Positive attitude and effective training are helpful to improve students' data literacy.Especially for girls,if the school can strengthen their training in "interpreting statistical results,and making simple judgments and predictions based on data" in mathematics teaching,and improve their positive attitude towards data or scientific inquiry,their data literacy ability will be greatly improved.
