Dr. Howard Gardner, an educational expert from the U.S. put forward the theory of multiple intelligences in the 1980s. The theory indicates that the ways of thinking and perceiving the world of human mind are diverse. Each individual has eight or more intelligences including verbal-linguistic intelligence, logical mathematical intelligence, musical rhythmic intelligence, visual-spatial intelligence, bodily kinesthetic intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, Intrapersonal intelligence and naturalist intelligence. The eight intelligences play equally important role in young children's development, they are relatively independent but inter-penetrated and they enhance each other. The theory rejected the traditional theory in a narrow sense. It is not only a theoretical breakthrough, but also has a strong significance to the instruction for practice. It has provided us with scientific fundamentals and effective way into knowing and developing children's intelligences. The eight intelligences represent eight different potentials of each individual and these potentials can be fully developed in an appropriate context. We can't be limited to understand the multiple nature of young children's intelligences, but we should promote children's fully development by making good use of different educational activities when we apply the theory into the practice of guiding pre-school education. So the educators and parents should keep an eye on the children and help them to establish a right scientific view of children and education basing on the multiple intelligences; to create a full rich of nursery education and harmonious humanistic community; to design for network-integrated thematic and special educational activities which are fit for the children's multiple-balanced development; to make the educational evaluation of multiple intelligence penetrating in the whole educational activities. At the same time, parents should help educators to promote effectiveness of the theory in pre-school education. The application of the theory in pre-school education guide each individual to show his or her specialty and interest in different areas of intelligence and promote their best development.
