Research Into Recruitment Of Students In Broad Categories Of Higher Instututions

Higher institutions,the places of knowledge innovation and training of senior specialized talents,take the social responsibility of cultivating social talents that are needed.In the current information society,the classification of majors in the mode of cultivating educational talents is too detailed and the knowledge structure is simple. As a result,the mode has a serious impact on the innovative talents cultivation of higher education and higher stages.Since the 1970s,higher institutions of China have reformed the talent cultivating mode in different levels. Since 2001, Beijing University formed the management committee of "Yuan Pei" plan,promoting the undergraduate teaching reform all over the university.Meanwhile,it held the experimental classes of "Yuan Pei" plan and practiced the mode of new talents cultivating.Then higher institutions carried out the cultivating mode of broad categories recruitment.So the recruitment of students in broad categories became a hot topic of higher education today.This model also became the direction of the reform and the development of many higher institutions.Education is not only the product of social development,but also an important tool for promoting social progress.Recruitment of students in broad categories is a new talent cultivation mode.According to subjects,departments,colleges or the unified enrollment plans of universities,higher institutions will enroll students.Lower—grade students without a definite major learn common basic courses.They will choose a major in a higher grade.Then they'll complete studying and graduate.The mode has three types, in this study only the third type is researched into. According to the incomplete count,only Fudan University,Zhejiang University and Ningbo University practice the mode.Our recruitment of students in broad categories is not the researchers'imaginary results,but has a profound significance.lt absorbed the overall view of Marx an Engels.It is the result of the reflection of educational and practical problems in higher institutions from the aspect of globalization.It is a try of improving the higher education's theory through reflection and practice.By practical researching into Fudan University,Zhejiang University and Ningbo University,the research found that this type of recruitment of students in broad categories has the following problems.The foundation of general education is weak.The management and subject system of traditional universities have defects.Thus we can come up with strategies to solve problems from such multi-dimension as the subject,countries and management. Only in this way can we better promote the development of higher institutions,reach the goal of talent cultivation and improve the overall level,so as to adapt to the updating modern society further and better.
