Trading is one of the basic activities of human beings since the primitive society appeared. At that time, a primitive man swapped an animal skin for a stone chisel. With the development of society, human being need more and more things and objects, and the activities of exchanging become more and more frequent. Throughout the history, China had business dealings with other countries in an early time. Afterwards, with the rapid development of global economy and China's entry to WTO, the foreign trade correspondence is gradually playing significant roles in our economic life.International exchanges have become increasingly frequent in the 21st century; business English, as a language communication tool is a necessary form in the international economic activities. English for foreign trade correspondence also has more and more extensive use. Mastering the features of the register in English foreign trade correspondence, which is helpful for the translation of business English.Register Theory formulated mainly by Halliday has been widely used in translation analysis and language teaching since its birth. To evaluate translation from the perspective of register could be a better way to avoid subjective assumptions and could be a more scientific methods to evaluate the reliability of the translation. The present paper intends to apply the theory into the field of translation of Foreign-Trade Correspondence. With an analysis of the register equivalence in translation, the author explores the value of register analysis for translation, has studied the register theory thoroughly and puts forward her own unique insights for the translation of Foreign-Trade Correspondence. Meanwhile, with translation studies and cross-cultural communication pushed forward, the significance of English translation of foreign trade correspondence is becoming more and more obvious. As we know, high-quality translation helps merchants to expand the overseas markets, achieve the purpose of communicating effectively and promote the mutual understanding and long-term cooperation of both sides for trade. Therefore, the author puts forward the applicability and operability in language domain concerning English translation for foreign trade correspondence. but the study on the style features of English trade correspondence should be prior.
