Study On Mongolia Costume Represented In Images Of Yuan Dynasty

Mongolian is a brave and fierce nomad since ancient times, who establish the boundaries of the vast Mongol Empire across Europe and Asia after years of battle. In the mid-13th century, Mongolian move into the Central Plains, defeat the Song Dynasty and achieve hegemony in the Central Plains region, also established the first feudal dynasty which ruled by the minority nationality-----the Yuan dynasty. Since the great Genghis Khan established the Mongolian emperor in 1206 then Kublai Khan established the unified to the Yuan Dynasty, referred to as the Yuan, which was ruled by Mongolian.Mongol Empire achieved the formation of contact between Asia and Europe and Africa. Therefore so many people from different religions, different cultures, different customs of got frequent and extensive exchanges, also create the most prosperous era in the history but formed a very unique culture. As the most important part of the culture, the costume which contains clothing, fabrics, shapes, clothing accessories, have reached a high level, reflecting a wide range of features.The research on the costumes of the Yuan Dynasty had made great progress in the 1980s and 1990s of the early 21st century, focused on archaeological research and general information, and more was biased in the textual meaning, deficiently researched on the visual material. This dissertation will use the image as the main material of the Yuan Dynasty and study on costumes by iconology method. The material involved can be divided into two parts:the plane images and the solid images. The former one included scroll paintings, murals, etc., compared with three-dimensional sculptures or figurines. It also involved the literature documents. The visual recovery of costume will surely improve on the general researching. Then select and do research on representative images with theoretical study, based on the use of experimental methods for the production in order to change two-dimensional images into three-dimensional restoration. Expecting the study of on this way can systematically sort out the history of costume, and methodology to provide practical clothing.This dissertation divided into four chapters, including general research and project research of costume in Yuan Dynasty.The first chapter is the briefly introduction in social background of Yuan Dynasty. Yuan was an era of multi-ethnic harmony and cultural exchange was also reflected in clothing. The national policy of the government] had played an essential role.Chapter II is carried through the Yuan clothing and general studies, according to the social status of people which divided into folk costume and aristocratic dress. Also discuss on the military uniform of Yuan. On the basic of combination of historical and cultural relics, recovery clothing with line drawing about the shapes, structures and patterns.Chapter III is a representative image of the Yuan clothing for special study, the selected sample paper for the Yuan Dynasty painting, palace painting (including embroidery) and Yulin cave murals. The second part of this chapter, the author compare the Mongolian Prince's clothing style structure, fabric colors, accessories production technology research with the previous view and produce the practical costume.The fourth chapter is a foregoing research content about the impact of the Mongol costumes. The point focuses on comparing with other northern Mongol minority, also the lately costumes of Ming Dynasty.Through combine of the theoretical research & Image studies, visual recovery and physical recovery method to make the specific costumes characteristics more clearly, it contributes a lot of visual recovery for the clothing of the Yuan, and provide a more intuitive understanding.
