Playing Saxophone In A Jazz Style

Saxophone has already have more than one hundred and fifty years of history, and it was named after its inventor"Adolphe Sax". Saxophone's characteristics in playing portamento, tremolo, tonguing and over-blowing satisfy various requirements of Jazz impromptu, therefore, it has been playing an indispensable part in Jazz development history.This paper explored the application of saxophone to Jazz play and the unique glamour of saxophone in Jazz. Based on the review of the development history of saxophone and Jazz, this paper summarized the functions saxophone had played in different stages of Jazz development and the relative features, analyzed typical role once played by famous players of Jazz, and researched different play styles and skills of saxophone in Jazz, classic music, and pop music.
