Twenty-first century is the age of information. We get various kinds of information from different news reports emanated from different media organizations. Apart from domestic news, we also have access to news from abroad and due to the fact that many of those stories are written in foreign languages, translation becomes inevitable.Twenty-first century is the age of globalization. We are having more chances to meet foreign people and study foreign languages and these two phenomena all involve translation. Translation is an act to render one language into another language accurately and coherently. Translation is a process to transform a relatively unfamiliar way of expression into a relatively familiar way of expression. Languages, words, diagrams and symbols all can be translated. As a professional journalist working for China's foreign publicity mouthpiece, the author of the thesis needs to do translation work particularly news translation on a daily basis. Drawn on her work experience and profound study, this thesis focuses on exploring Korean-Chinese news translation, expounding the conception and different types of news reports and their respective features, providing basic translation methods as well as news lead translation regulations, and probing news translation from grammatical perspective. Meanwhile, the thesis also compares different Korean-Chinese translations of news titles, discusses mistranslation and provides ideas on how to make the translation right. The arguments stated in the thesis are drawn from analysis of concrete examples. The thesis mainly includes:1. News title translation2. News lead translation3. Translation of news story4. Taboo words in news report5. News mistranslation and solutionTranslation process can be logically divided into two phases:first decoding the meaning of the source language, then encoding the information into target language. The two steps require a deep knowledge of linguistics and semantics and a good understanding of the culture of the source language speaker. In addition to retaining the original meaning, a good translation, as to the user of the target language, should be as coherent as native speaker speaks or writes, and should conform to the custom of the target language.Translation is a bridge connecting different languages and makes communication possible. Generally speaking, there are mainly two standards for good translation: faithfulness and coherence. Faithfulness means to be loyal to the information the source language wants to convey, that is to say, to express the information conveyed by the source language thoroughly and accurately, so the information that the readers of the target language gets is almost the same as the reader of the source language gets. Coherence means target language is clearly and logically structured and easy to understand. Chinese scholar Yan Fu, in his famous work Evolution and Ethics, proposed a basic principle for translation, summarized as "faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance".Faithfulness means to be faithful to the meaning of the source language and translate accurately without any distortion, omission and any random adding or cutting^of the original meaning; expressiveness means not to rigidly adhere to the formation of the original piece and to make the translation coherent and understandable; elegance means translation should pursue the conciseness and elegance of the source language and use proper words to express them. However, news translation is different from other translations. News translation is more of adaptation. Adaptation to some extent means revision, meaning that translator changes the content and formation of the source language to achieve a certain goal. The examples cited in this thesis demonstrate this characteristic of news translation. Strictly speaking, this opinion goes against the concept and standard of translation, but news report has its uniqueness and should be dealt with by special means under special circumstances. This is one of the features that differentiate news translation from other translations.
