| Since China got its entry into WTO, its financial market has been integrated into the world financial market, which indicates the overseas markets are getting more and more influential on its domestic market. Therefore, institutional and individual investors in China are eager to obtain the information of stock markets in foreign countries so that they can make decisions for their investment by means of analyzing and assessing the information. However, the current translation of English stock news usually lacks of readability due to its poor quality of translation as well as the mistranslations. Consequently, such translation which has become a professional field in China needs to be further studied and researched.On the basis of illustrating the linguistic features of stock news, the thesis focuses on analyzing the lexical, syntactic and discourse characteristics of stock news and the causes behind the mistranslations. And by analyzing the first-hand examples selected from renowned financial media, the thesis studies the mistakes and errors in E-C translation of stock news and the strategies for solving the problems in conducting such news translations. In addition, from the perspective of the functional translation theory and with these well-selected examples, the author proposes some approaches for translators to conduct in practice during the translating process. As a result, the quality and readability of stock news translation will be promoted.Having analyzed the collected examples, the thesis presents the typical errors and mistakes embodied in the E-C translation of stock news, such as the lack of professional knowledge, the improper collocation, the pleonasm, etc. To solve these problems within the process of translation, the author suggests the application of functional translation approaches to better such news translation.The researches and studies on stock news translation in China are in the early phase, and they need more scholars, researchers and experts to make efforts in studying this filed. The aim of this thesis is to help the translators to recognize the typical mistakes and errors during the translation process. And the approaches and strategies discussed in this thesis will offer a new perspective for the translators of such news to study and research further in this field. |
