A Comparative Study On Parallel Connective Features Of "or", "否则", "(?)"

"Or","否则"and "(?)" are the most frequently used conjunctions in each language. "Or" is one of the central coordinating conjunctions in English as well as "and". But, its characteristic of connection is different from "and" and "but" when its meaning is "otherwise". The structure of two sides of the "or" sentence is asymmetric while "or" means "otherwise""否则"is a kind of conjunction; the left part is the negative condition of the right part"否则"is not one word in old Chinese, but a structure. "(?)" has two meanings, one is "or", the other one is "otherwise". "(?)" is the short form of "(?)" in Korean. So "(?)" refers to the former part S1, "(?)" negates "(?)". The left part is the negative condition of the right part in "(?)" sentence. This paper gives rise to a hypothesis that there is another structure in deep structure. "Or","否则"and "(?)" shows its parallel connection feature according to the hypothesis. This paper defines the left part as S1, right part as S3, the hypothesis part as S2.This paper is separated into five parts. The first part is the introduction. The second part is for the introduction of coordination conjunction, parallel connection and classification of the left part of "or" sentence,"否则"sentence and "(?)" sentence. The third and fourth parts consider comparative study on characteristics of parallel connection of "or","否则"and "(?)" from structure and semantic point of view. The third part gives rise to a hypothesis of S2 in deep structure, reduction of its original form and its deletion. The fourth part focuses on sentence meaning of the left and right part of "or" sentence,"否则"sentence, "(?)" sentence, and also mentions the semantic relationship of S1 and S2. The last part is the conclusion."Or","否则"and "(?)" parallel connect S1 and S2 in deep structure, and connect S1 and S3 in surface structure. S2 is the condition mutation of S1. So the same part of S1 and S2 should be deleted. The difference of "or","否则"and "(?)" in connection, "or" is the symbolized form of "if not","否则"has the trace of countervailed part. "(?)" absorbs the deleted part in it. S3 is subjunctive form, and S1 expresses speakers'subjective attitude to a truth. The subjects of the two parts do not have direct semantic relations.
