The observation and study on subject changes of Chinese traditional murals and characteristics of Chinese modern murals indicates that the rise and decline of culture is a key factor affecting Chinese murals. As a public art, the mural has become an important component of social culture and spiritual civilization, so there is a close connection between public art and regional context. Yu & Qiang Culture is a hotspot in the study of national culture currently. All the more than 30 members of Yufeng Poets Society loving Yu & Qiang Culture very much died in the Wenchuan Earthquake, including Xie Xingpeng, an authority on Yu & Qiang Culture. The study of Yu & Qiang Culture suffered heavy losses. The reconstruction of Beichuan presents not only in the aspect of building restoration, but also in the aspect of cultural heritage and recordation.Every public art has a base and start point for its creation. Only through maintaining regional & historical context which reflects both characteristics of the times and local culture, can people break away from monotonous conventions. In the study of this subject, we observed and studied Yu & Qiang Culture in the macro background of social history development and the micro scenario of regional culture. Though this study, we aimed to:first reconfirm the social & cultural value of the mural with historical subject which is a public art; second analyze if the mural with the subject of Yu & Qiang Culture is giving full play to it value of presenting ancient history with modern visual effects. In the study of "murals with the subject of Yu & Qiang Culture", people should stick to the principle of combining "being responsible to the reality" with "being truthful to the history". In this way, people can apply regional culture to public art works better and inherit the national culture of China. People should catch historical context and create its peculiarity and uniqueness while pursuing aesthetic feeling and order of mural appearance for the purpose of presenting ancient history with modern visual effects.
