With the improvement of China's national strength and international status, exchanges and cooperation between China and Western countries have also increased. At the same time,Western countries also strongly hope to have a comprehensive and detailed understanding of China. It is a best way to know China through literature which reflects the distinctive culture and the special social flavor. In this situation, the translation of Chinese traditional culture is particularly important.Since most of the cultural popularization materials are aimed at English-speaking countries,thus,Chinese-English translation not only plays a vital role in the smooth communication between China and the Western countries, but also helps to deepen the “going global” strategy of Chinese culture. The materials of this translation report are the third and fourth chapters excerpted from the book The Story of Dayu, with about 15,000 words. The report mainly focuses on the translation process of historical stories handed down from ancient China.By using the Eco-translatology put forwarded by Professor Hu Gengsheng as the guiding theory, this report introduces the difficulties that the author encountered in the translation practice, analyzes the strategies adopted, present and summarizes the Chinese-English translation process and completion of the source text, hoping to provide some reference and make a little contribution to the translation of Chinese historical and cultural stories in the future. This report consists of five parts: Introduction,Translation Process,Case Study,Project Assessment and Conclusion.Through this translation practice, the author finds that there are many Chinese-specific culture-loaded words and four-character words in the source text. Those words need to be considered from different dimensions. In order to spread traditional Chinese culture successfully, when translating these words, translators can adopt“three-dimensional transformation” strategy of Eco-translatology and use flexible translation method to make adaptive selection and transformation in language, culture and communication dimension and to coordinate the ecological balance between the source language and the target language,so as to avoid unsmooth cross-cultural communication caused by cultural loss in the translation process as much as possible.
