Japan and Mongolia are both the neighbors of China, both of them have an important position in the Northeast Asia, the relationship of Japan and Mongolia has an important influence on China and even the whole Northeast Asia in safety. During the Cold War, the world was in a situation that two groups respectively represented by the US and the Soviet Union confronted each other. Japan followed the US in diplomacy and security, while Mongolia adopted a comprehensive alliance with the Soviet with a one-side foreign strategy. Because Japan and Mongolia were in two opposing groups and both were limited by the geographical conditions, Japan-Mongolia relationship was. relatively cool during the Cold War in a whole.After the Cold War, great changes had taken place in the international situation. In line with their own national interests, both Japan and Mongolia adjusted their foreign policy. Japan speeded up the pace to great power in politics, while Mongolia established the "multi-pivot" diplomatic policy featuring open and non-aligned. The two countries have found the mutual interests through communication. Both take what it needs from each other, improve the bilateral ties actively and strive to cultivate a close comprehensive partnership gradually.After "9.11 incident", Japan and Mongolia took this chance actively carrying out their foreign policy. Japan expanded its influence on foreign countries energetically through supporting America's anti-terrorist war to realize the goal of troops'exceeding to other countries. As to Mongolia, it boosted its influence in international arena through firmly support America's military action throughout the world. The better relations of America and Mongolia became the motive power of development in Japan-Mongolia relations. Meanwhile, Sino-Mongolia relations and Russia-Mongolia relations developed rapidly. A lot of internal and external factors promote the development and change of Japan-Mongolia relations continuously. Thus, Japan-Mongolia relations entered a new stage.This thesis will make a comprehensive investigation on the evolution of Japan-Mongolia relations after the Cold War, several phases are drawn in analyzing the evolution of Japan-Mongolia relations to highlight the development and the course of evolution in Japan-Mongolia relations. Moreover, one important focus of the article was emphasized the main factors influencing the Japanese-Mongolian relations after the Cold War in a standpoint of geopolitics.This thesis is made up by the main body and the introduction. The main body incorporates three chapters:the first chapter briefly reviews the relations between Japan and Mongolia during the Cold War, and also makes the reasons analysis:the influence of the Cold War and the respective effect of the foreign policy of Japan and Mongolia during the Cold War. The second chapter discusses the evolution of Japan-Mongolia relations in two phases:in the transitional period of 1990s and in the development period of the first decade of the new century, which highlights the development and course of evolution of Japan-Mongolia relations. The third chapter analyzes the main influencing factors of Japan-Mongolia relations after the Cold War, such as Japan's own factors, Mongolia's own factors, and influence of America, China and Russia.
