Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl., a kind of folk medicine in Yunnan, the root, the stem, and the leave of which were all used in medicine, had the actions to eliminate stasis to activate blood circulation and to stop bleeding, also had the actions of detumescence and analgesia. In the paper, it was studied on the basis of chemical constituents and pharmacological research, to establish the quality criterion. By comparing between Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl. and other plants usually used in Callicarpa L., it was found out the qualitative and quantitative methods in Callicarpa L., to offer more necessary material foundations to develop better.1. By investigating domestic and foreign literatures, it was summarized that the distributions of plants of Callicarpa L., to provide a reference for further research and development of Callicarpa L..2. The constituents from the stem of Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl. were investigated for the very first time. Seven compounds were isolated from Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl.by liquid-liquid extraction, silica gel and sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. Six compounds of them were identified by physical-chemical constants and spectral analysis. They wereα-amyrin(l), ursolic acid(2), euscaphic acid(3), betulinic acid(4),β-sitsterol(5), daucosterol(6). Compoundsl, 3 were obtained from this plant for the first time.3. The quality control methods of Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl. was established for the first time.(1) A systematic quality evaluation was shown by the parameters.(2) For the first time, to establish an RP-HPLC method for determination of ursolic acid, euscaphic acid, betulinic acid.(3) For the first time, colorimeter was used to determine the total triterpenoids.(4) For the first time, HPLC-FPS analysis of Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl. was done. Based on the results of methodology, the HPLC-FPS was up to standard.4. By comparing the diversity among Callicarpa L., Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl. from different places, Callicarpa macrophylla Vahl. from different parts, other plants usually used in Callicarpa L., in aspects of the quality control, it was shown the significance of quality control at interspecific and intraspecific identification of Callicarpa L..
